Redbud Productions (voted 2011’s Best Stage Production Company by annarbor.com readers) is proud to present the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof by David Auburn. This Broadway hit, the recipient of multiple awards, became an acclaimed film with Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Jake Gyllenhaal. “Proof combines elements of mystery and surprise with old-fashioned storytelling to provide a compelling evening of theatre” – NY Daily News.
Proof opened on Broadway in 2000 to excellent reviews, winning 2001 Tony award nominations for its entire cast and Tony wins for Best Play of the Year and Best Actress in a Drama for Mary Louise Parker (of Weeds). It also won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. “When we think of the great American playwrights, we think of Arthur Miller and Eugene O’Neill and Lillian Hellman, in earlier generations…Welcome David Auburn to the club. Proof is the one you won’t want to miss “ — NY Magazine. “
Catherine (Emily Rogers), a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father (Tim Grimes), a famous mathematician. Now, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her embittered sister, Claire (Leslie McCarty); and the attentions of one of her father’s former students (Dave Barker), who hopes to find valuable work in her father’s 103 notebooks – but discovers a mystery instead.
Proof is a “wonderfully funny……ambitiously constructed work” – Variety. Don’t miss it!
